Once a Quarter

The World Financial Center has a food tasting thing. It’s real name is EAT: World Financial Center Restaurant Showcase. I like food tasting thing better. All the restaurants here set up stands in the Winter Garden (a central location inside this little mall where concerts and other events often take place) and sell their food for prices between $2 and $5.

I LOVE IT.

I look forward to this event every quarter because it allows me to try lots of different favorite foods for lunch for cheap! They also have amazing looking desserts which I have never purchased there… I thought today might be the day, but it wasn’t.

I usually come away with something from Blockheads (taco, burrito), something from Yushi(dumpling, chicken teriyaki), and who knows what else. Once I got an entire Cosi signature salad (back in the days where I didn’t yet know I couldn’t eat salad) for $4!

I took a photo of the event on my BlackBerry. I emailed it to myself and then deleted it to save memory. The email never went through and now I can’t resend because I deleted the picture! Oops!

Just imagine lots of booths with people lined up for food, and milling all around. I took the pic with a view from the top of the steps and it looked great. Now I learned my lesson — don’t erase pictures until I am SURE I have them in my email!

They hold this event every quarter, with the exception of one during the worst economic times last year. There was one time they were having this event and I was really looking forward to going with my good friend and colleague Phoebe. But it was one of those days, you know. Where I had to leave work before lunchtime in excruciating upper abdominal pain, get in a black car, go to my doctor, get an injection of Demerol and yet another CT scan. You know. One of those days.

I was so sad that I was missing the food! I was in so much pain but I was most distraught about missing this event. Don’t worry; I got over it.

But now I am happy – today is the day! I got there around 11:30 before it gets crowded and the lines get long. Since the boy and I had a delicious Mexican meal last night at Chevy’s(the Mexican Applebee’s), I decided to skip Blockheads today. Instead I got a Fresh Seafood Tostada with Avocado and Roasted Pepper Sofrito from the Grill Room:

And two mini cheeseburgers from PJ Clarkes!

The tiramisu cup from Financier Patisserie was calling my name, but I was getting so much that I decided not to. The tostada wasn’t as good as it looks, so now I wish I got the burgers and the tiramisu! Oh well. I am stuffed!

P.S. At Chevy’s last night, they had deep fried ice cream on the menu! WOW. I didn’t get it. But. Wow.

Do you get as excited about food as I do? The boy doesn’t understand it. But I am pretty sure some of you do… 🙂

Couple of quick Santana pictures, I had to! One is her making a funny face. The other is her ear in the air!

You know I get just as excited about food!! I would love a food tasting event in the middle of my workday!! When I was in KY, one of the offices on campus hosted an International Foods type thing where you bought tickets for like 50 cents each and each ticket got you a sample from one of the tables from all over the world…Each country that had a table had two or three different things to try. You end up with a tray full of little two-bite cups of food! So fun!

I get so excited about food!! I went to a farmers market this morning and I swear I’ve been skipping around my office 🙂 I even called my fiance to tell him about the exciting produce I got and what we would be having for dinner!

I also get excited about food equipment – which may explain some of the skipping because I’m picking up my dehydrator tonight!

I get excited about food–especially new products! My friends (and my dad) don’t get it, but my mom and sis do 🙂
