DSB Review: PlantFusion Vegan Protein Powder Giveaway

When I did Refine ReGroup back in June, all the participants worked with Brynn on identifying and maintaining a healthy habit as part of the program. My healthy habit was making sure I incorporated (enough) protein into all my meals. I struggle with that, mostly out of laziness, but also out of… OK, laziness.I’m a vegetarian who doesn’t cook, and I can only eat so much almond butter and hummus.

I’ve never been one to drink a protein shake after a long run or intense class. I know I should, I know it would help muscle recovery, but I don’t. I bought a big expensive thing of protein powder last year and proceeded to never use it. Then I gave it away.

That said, when I read Ashley’s review of PlantFusion, I wanted to give it a try. It seemed simple — just pour into a cup with water and shake — and I really liked the ingredients. It’s vegan, gluten-free and soy-free. For someone with chronic GI problems, this is a dream. The proteins are easily-digestible and hypoallergenic. Their website has some helpful features, like comparisons of PlantFusion versus whey and soy proteins, which I found helpful.

I reached out to the company and they sent me a few sample packets to try. The powder comes in four flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla Bean, Berry and Unflavored.

After my run this morning, I mixed the Vanilla Bean powder with water, shook it up and drank it. While the drink had a slightly chalky taste, I actually liked it a lot! It was easy to drink, didn’t have any weird aftertaste and took literally 10 seconds to prepare. I was surprised I liked it so much because, well, it’s protein powder. I drank it up quickly and I’m looking forward to having more.

I’m also looking forward to giving the chocolate a try! I’d also like to use the unflavored in a pancake mix soon. The one thing I do cook is breakfast.

If I was non-lazy enough to open my Magic Bullet blender, I’d make a smoothie, but I really don’t see that happening anytime soon. That’s fine since I really enjoyed the protein shake with just powder and water. Easy and tasty. I plan to drink these after Refine classes when I remember, especially on weekends when I’m running around all day.

I usually go with unflavored or vanilla protein powders, but the berry flavor sounds interesting and I would love to give it a try.
