Hi. I am writing this post extra tired, although I am not sure why I am so tired. I did have a really great time at the Snow Patrol concert last night and went to bed a little later than normal, but I don’t feel this tired when I go to bed normal time but wake up early for a conference call or to exercise. I am really just wiped!

OK I am now back from a nap. Much better, but still tired. Thank you jury duty for giving me this nap time.
I also took two videos, one of the Plain White T’s (the opening band) singing Hey There Delilah and one of Snow Patrol’s lead singer singing Run (one of their more popular songs) by himself before the band came out to join him. Shortly after that, they messed up and stopped the song, but played it later in the encore again. Snow Patrol definitely puts on a great live show. I especially liked the audience interaction during one of the sons, Shut Your Eyes. I had a really fun time and the lead singer is very funny.
Speaking of concerts, I sadly can’t use my Regina Spektor tickets for Wednesday, October 14. It conflicts with my writing class. Anyone who will be in the NYC area that day who wants to buy them from me? Please let me know!
So, anyway. This morning I went to jury duty. I was supposed to go in May but I forgot and fortunately I was not sent to prison. They let me select the month I would be called again and I arbitrarily chose September. This morning I arrived in a part of Manhattan very close to where I work — the same subway stop I get off every day — but it felt like another world. I had never been to the City Hall area before and it was like being in another city.
I was so out of it this morning that I forgot to do my hair, to put on deoderant, to bring my travel size hair products and to bring my water bottle. Does that ever happen to you? I walked out with slept on jewfro!
When I got to the couthouse they confiscated my camera. It actually makes no sense because they allow camera phones, so what exactly is it they are preventing? I was nervous but relieved to get my camera back when I left. It will not be coming with me tomorrow.
Yom Kippur is on Monday and I can’t be at jury duty that day, so I planned on telling them today, and since I reported I would be counted as served and done — at least that is what I thought based on my last jury duty experience 4 years ago, when I told them I had a doctor’s appointment that week and they let me go, stamped as “served”. But this time, not only would today not count, but I needed to provide documentation to be excused at all.
Now, this is not World War II. I do not have Jew documentation.
I know I could have fought it, but I was there and really did not want to go back and I know my chances of not getting on a jury are high. I decided to stick it out and hope for the best.
I sat around and read The Omnivore’s Dilemma. A group of people got their names called to be on a jury. I was not one of them. At noon, they announced that no more judges needed juries today and we were all free to go. Unexpected day off!
I have to report back tomorrow at 10 and if I don’t get chosen for a jury tomorrow I am done for 6 years. I feel like I go to jury duty more than anyone else. This is my second time, but I know people much older who’ve never been called at all.
I was supposed to go to Core Fusion with Missy and Megan, but then the plans changed. So I was going to go to the free Dialogue Writing class at Gotham Writers’ Workshop, but I was still so tired so I rested. Much needed!
I plan to go for a slow run tomorrow morning, just like I did yesterday with the sunrise. Only tomorrow the sun will be risen since I get to wake up later because jury isn’t until 10! Friday I rest and Saturday is my next race — the Continental Airlines 5th Avenue Mile! I pick up my race packet tomorrow and I am very excited.
Sorry this was such a blah post. I wanted to get a post in here this week though. I hope to be back stronger and refreshed tomorrow. Bye!

September 24, 2009 at 9:32 am (15 years ago)Ooh the Beacon Theatre! We had a few IIN class weekends held there. What a beautiful theatre! Glad you didn’t get picked for the jury…I’ve had do go twice already too. It always makes me glad I’m not a lawyer or judge and have to spend every day inside a courthouse!
